Never Again: The Student Conference to End Genocide in Darfur
February 10th, 11th, and 12th
@ The New School of Northern Virginia
On the “Problem” Day, February 10th, a series of talented speakers from a large selection of non-profits, as well as activists, will come and speak to the students about the current genocide in Darfur. There will also be a showing of Darfur Diaries (the movie/book), and a panel discussion.
The “Solutions Day”, February 11th, is meant to teach the attending students how to lobby. There will be speakers, an Amnesty International lobbying workshop, and a panel discussion to prepare the students for the following day.
Monday February 12th is the “Action Day”- and is also WORLD REFUGEES DAY. Appointments have been set up with Congressmen so that the students can meet with their district Congressional leaders to lobby for Darfur.

STUDENTS MAY ATTEND ANY NUMBER OF DAYS THAT COORDINATE WITH THEIR SCHEDULES (you may attend Saturday and Sunday & decide not to lobby on Monday, etc.)

Day one will be learning about the crisis in Darfur, day two will be learning how to lobby at congress, and day three, we will actually lobby! The Student Unchain Darfur Conference, inspired by "Never Again"
This is the blog for the upcoming student conference entitled: "Never Again: The Student Conference to End Genocide in Darfur". The conference will last three days - February 10th, 11th, and 12th; and will be held at The New School of Northern Virginia. The conference is meant for high school and college students. The goal of the conference is to raise awareness among students about the conflict in Darfur, and what we, as students- can do to help. A unique aspect of the conference is that it is being organized by a small group of students- for students.
On the first day, February 10th, a series of talented speakers from a large selection of non-profits and activists will come and teach the students about the genocide in Darfur. There will be panel discussions, movies, etc. This day will last from 10AM-4PM.
The second day is aimed at teaching the students how to lobby. Lobby specialists from Amnesty International, World Vision, and the Darfur Peoples' Union will perform workshops, present videos, and teach the students how to successfully lobby for Darfur.
The last day will be lobbying for Darfur on International/World Refugees Day. As a collective group, we will meet on the Hill to begin lobbying. Appointments will be set up with congressmen- this gives students the chance to meet with their representatives eye to eye and demand legislation advocacy for Darfur.
